I've learned that my body doesn't want to make babies naturally. Infertility is fairly common, but very few people talk openly about infertility. I am.

First Hurdle

After an egg retrieval, there are a few hurdles to pass. The first hurdle occurs on the second day after retrieval: whether or not any embryos have formed. Thankfully, the doctor called fairly early in the day with the report so I could stop checking my phone for missed calls every 5 minutes. I have three embryos. Two are looking good and one is mediocre. The next report will be six days after retrieval -- this coming Friday. That's when I'll learn whether any of the embryos made it to the blastocyst stage, which is the stage a transfer would normally take place, except ours are going to be frozen while pre-genetic testing takes place. Now it's back to waiting.

Update: I am wearing grown-up pants again (okay, denim shorts) for the first time in 10 days. This is very exciting, as it means the bloating has significantly decreased.
