There's nothing quite as awkward as jumping out of a meeting with your client mid-conversation to answer your cell phone. Granted, it was the call from the fertility clinic telling me what I should do next based on the results of the morning scan and blood work, and my client knows what's going on (and is very supportive), but it's still weird to do that when you're the person running the meeting.
First Monitoring Results
I was expecting news. I've been sticking two, sometimes three needles in alternate sides of my stomach since Thursday evening. I've been putting up with a pre-migraine headache since Saturday morning. My jeans are no longer comfortable and I've switched to elastic waistband skirts, yoga pants, or stretched out denim shorts. I wanted information, preferably something like: Things are progressing great and we can see multiple follicles! Or: The scan showed that the medicine isn't working so we're going to up your dosage. Not: Well, there's nothing really to see yet, but that's not abnormal, and the doctor wants to keep you on the same dosage of the Gonal-F and Menopur, but also start you on the Cetrotide beginning Thursday morning, so you'll have the one injection in the morning and the two in the evening, around the same time each day. Oh, and he wants to see you for your next scan, so can you come to the Tallahassee office on Friday?
Sure, I can get to Tallahassee on Friday. It's only 2.5 to 3 hours away, which I guess is better than the 4+ to Jacksonville. Even though I was able to get the latest appointment available, it still means I'll be up at the crack of dawn to get there on time -- there's a limit to how late in the day blood can be drawn and still be analyzed the same day. At least I can go down and back to Tallahassee in one day instead of doing an overnight. And, my husband doesn't teach on Fridays, so he'll be able to make the trip with me. Now, if I could only figure out the timing of the morning injection so it works with the drive to Tallahassee, but then doesn't mean I have to wake up earlier than I otherwise would on the other days. Doing an injection in the car on the side of the highway isn't sketchy, is it?
